HighRoydsSSC
... a bit of history

Founded on March 4th 1937 as the Menston Hospital Sports Club.

The annual subscription of just one shilling was levied for all members of staff at the hospital.

With the development of a new staff facility in 1971 the two sections combined to become High Royds Hospital Staff Sports & Social Club.

This facility was for hospital staff and their spouses. Later the words Hospital and Staff were dropped and the club became “open”

To book any of the facilities - just call in or ring 07833 642570

The club initially offered football, cricket, tennis, badminton, swimming, darts and dominoes and billiards.

A social section was added on 27th April 1948. At this time there was no clubhouse.

Fun and Games ...
.. and all for a bob!

Grand Re-Opening 1971

The clubhouse was re-opened on 5th July 1971; extensions were added to the function room, the games room was enlarged and a second bar added to serve this room and a smaller snug.

The cellar was enlarged and the club was fully equipped to serve its membership through the @70s and @80s. We prospered and provided a range of activities for the local community, and then we were knocked down by the developer who had bought the site and rehoused in our temporary accommodation.

Future Plans

When development of the site is completed the developer has committed to providing a brand new clubhouse near the site of the current cricket field.
